About the Artist

Growing up with all sorts of pets I’ve always had a passion for animals. I watched nature documentaries when I was young, fascinated by the beauty and complexity of animals. It seems only fitting to pursue a career in which I get to capture these animals’ beauty.

I have been interested in art since a very young age. I drew tons of animals and filled many sketchbooks over the years. I tried quite a few different mediums over the years and eventually landed on pastels when I was 14. I continued to refine my skills and sold my first commission in early 2021.

My first pet portrait was of our family dog Charlie. He had sadly passed away from cancer at the age of 10 just a few short months prior. I drew his portrait in secret to surprise my mom for Christmas. When she opened up his portrait Christmas morning, she cried with happy tears. Seeing her reaction was eye opening to how impactful my art could be. In creating each unique pet portrait, it is my goal not only to capture your pet’s features, but also his or her unique personality.

I can’t write about myself without mentioning Felicity. If you follow me on social media you might recognize this face. She pops up every now and then. She is an assistant of sorts, just not the kind who packages portraits for me unfortunately :) Instead she sleeps most of the time and is quite unhelpful in the art department, but we don’t tell her that.

There is this term you might have hard before, heart dog. It refers to a dog that is a bit like a soulmate. More than just a family dog or a cute face. A dog that you’re so connected with it transforms them into a close companion. I’ve had dogs my entire life but it was only when I got Felicity that I truly understood what a heart dog is. It really is something special.

Knowing what it’s like to have a dog like that is a huge motivator to create artwork that can capture that relationship in a drawing, especially when someone’s heart dog has passed on. It’s an honor to be trusted to create such a personal portrait. A pet portrait is more than just capturing features and details, there’s a personality behind those marks. A personality I strive to bring to life.
